Creative Curriculum
At Chase Lane, we aim to teach children how to grow into positive, responsible, confident people, who can work and co-operate with others while developing knowledge and skills, so that they achieve their true potential. Alongside this a ‘can do’ attitude is being fostered in all children.
Foundations subjects; History, Geography, Art, DT, Music, and P4C are taught in creative afternoon lessons. Throughout the year, these subjects are allocated to specific topics that link to the key knowledge, skills and content that are set out in the National Curriculum such as ‘The Victorians’ in Year 2 and ‘The Second World War’ in Year 6. PE, Computing, RE, PSHE and Science are subjects taught discreetly.
The curriculum is designed in order to promote learning and personal growth and development. It includes not only the formal requirements of the National Curriculum, but also the range of extra-curricular activities that the school organises in order to enrich the experience of the children. Each term, we arrange workshops and trips based on each year group’s current topic. Some memorable trips have been to: The Tower of London, The British Museum and Willows activity farm.
The Curriculum work in our school is characterised by the following: -
- Practical work;
- Tailoring the curriculum to the needs of individuals or groups of children;
- Active learning;
- Real engagement.
