MATHS
Chase Lane takes pride in providing maths learning opportunities that are of the highest quality. Learning is supported using a range of physical resources, visual aids, songs and genuine enjoyment. This is all delivered in such a way that all children are included in the learning and support is given to ensure that all children are able to succeed. In addition, children are given the chance to work towards some very difficult ‘Mastery’ challenges in every lesson.
The content of maths lessons is directed by the stands that have to be taught in the National Curriculum. Teachers strive to ensure that the strands are taught and remembered by the children by carefully planning interesting, fun and progressive lessons.
Results in maths by the end of Year 6 have been above national averages for the last 10 years!
Amazing!
Supporting your Children with Maths
As a school we have a duty to deliver the National Curriculum. Understanding expectation often causes some confusion.
The National Curriculum for mathematics aims to ensure that all pupils:
- become fluent in the fundamentals of mathematics, including through varied and frequent practice with increasingly complex problems over time, so that pupils develop conceptual understanding and the ability to recall and apply knowledge rapidly and accurately.
- reason mathematically by following a line of enquiry, conjecturing relationships and generalisations, and developing an argument, justification or proof using mathematical language
- can solve problems by applying their mathematics to a variety of routine and non-routine problems with increasing sophistication, including breaking down problems into a series of simpler steps and persevering in seeking solutions.
The National Curriculum Programmes of Study cover the following key areas:-
Number:
Number and Place Value
Addition, Subtraction, multiplication and division
Fractions (decimals from Year 4 and percentages from Year 5)
Measurement
Geometry:
Properties of shape
Position and direction
Statistics (Year 3 - Year 6)
Ratio and Proportion (Year 6)
Algebra (Year 6)
